Michael Curry Joins MYS

MYS is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Curry as the Director of Coaching Administration. In this role, Mike will be responsible for directing the technical and administrative activities for coaching, player and club development to ensure that “we provide opportunities for all players to reach their full potential in sport and in life through participation in soccer.”

Mike brings a diverse business and sports background that will help our club continue to provide the best experiences and value for our members. In April 2018, he retired from a leading provider of comprehensive investment management services where he served as a member of their leadership team for 21 years. This was the milestone for a business career of over 40 years serving in management and leadership positions with several successful business organizations.

Throughout his business career, Mike made sure he gave back to the game that was so beneficial to him. He advanced through the ranks from coaching neighborhood recreational teams, to state Olympic Development Pool teams and, eventually, Academy level teams. Curry’s passion and experience as a goalkeeper inspired him to establish a Goalkeeping Academy which he ran from 1986 – 2014. This Academy helped to develop many exceptional keepers and their coaches representing a variety of soccer organizations in the Mid-Atlantic area.

The commitment to developing talented soccer players, coaches and programs across the country led to several significant opportunities. He was appointed the Goalkeeping Coach for the Adidas Elite Soccer Program during the summers of 2004 and 2005 under Director Juergen Klinsmann. From 2000 – 2008, he served as the Goalkeeping Director, an Academy Program Coach and member of the Board of Directors for the FC DELCO Soccer Club. In August 2011, Curry had the privilege of working with head coach Klinsmann as an assistant coach for the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team in the game against Mexico. Mike was one of several coaches that helped Klinsmann begin preparing the team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

As a member of the United Soccer Coaches Association for over 25 years, Mike served as a member of the United Soccer Coaches Board of Directors; Chairperson of the Board of Governors; and Chairperson for the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Mike served as the United Soccer Coaches Philadelphia Convention Local Organizing Committee Chairperson for the six conventions held in Philadelphia from 1999 – 2014. In recognition of his contributions to the association, he received Certificates of Appreciation in 2008 and 2014; a Presidential Recognition Award in 2015; a United Soccer Coaches Letter of Commendation in 2018; and the United Soccer Coaches Foundation Meritorious Service Award in 2019. In January 2020, Curry became the 80th recipient of the United Soccer Coaches Honor Award, which is the association’s highest recognition for contributions to the organization and the game of soccer.

Mike served as the Chairman of the Philadelphia Union Foundation from 2011 – 2019, leading initiatives to support youth programs in underserved communities in collaboration with the Philadelphia Union, MLS (Major League Soccer) team. He is currently a member of the YSC Academy Board of Directors, the Philadelphia Union-affiliated private high school for soccer players, the United Soccer Coaches Foundation Committee and the University of Baltimore Foundation.
