McLean Youth Soccer provides Recreation level players with specific additional training opportunities throughout the seasonal year including Recreation Skills, Winter U6-U8 Clinic and SFL Winter Training. If you have any questions, please email programs@mcleansoccer.org.

Speed, Agility & Strength Training - Fall 2021

NEW THIS FALL

This new program is for athletes interested in improving their on-field performance through increased athleticism. Sessions will focus on the most efficient warm-up techniques to perform at peak level.  We will also introduce proper sprinting and multidirectional form and technique; quick footwork; power and acceleration, showing how it applies it to the sport of soccer.

 

All sessions will be run by McLean Travel Coach Scott Shoemaker whose credentials include:

  • ACE Certified Personal Trainer
  • EXOS Performance Specialist Certification
  • United Soccer Coaches Special Topics Diploma (Player Health, Fitness, and Safety)
  • Explosive Performance Mentorship
  • Smarterteam Training Continued Education
  • US Soccer C License
  • United Soccer Coaches National Diploma
  • First Aid/CPR Certification

Recreation  - Ages 9-12 years old

  • 6 sessions on Fridays from 5:00-6:00 pm at Lewinsville Park
  • Maximum 20 players per session
  • Cost per player - $150.00
  • Dates – September 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22

Session example:

  • 10 minute dynamic warm up, introducing players to simple movements working on balance and rhythm.
  • 20 minutes of speed and agility work
  • Focus on body movements and getting players to use proper technique; balance and core strength.
  • 20 minutes of body weight strength and correctives for flexibility and weak links.
  • 5-10 minute review on using session training in practice

Recreation – Ages 13-18 years old

  • 6 sessions on Fridays from 6:00-7:00 pm at Lewinsville Park
  • Maximum 20 players per session
  • Cost per player - $150.00
  • Dates – September 17, 24, October 1, 8, 15, 22

Session example:

  • 10 minute dynamic warm up using mini bands
  • Focus on proper techniques for jumping and plyometrics
  • 20 minutes of speed and agility training
  • 20 minutes of strength and corrective exercises
  • 5-10 minute review on using session training in practice and games

Recreation Skills - Fall 2021

McLean Youth Soccer offers recreation players U6-U14 an opportunity to receive additional training from the professional technical staff to complement their regularly scheduled team practices and games.

The curriculum consists of age-appropriate fun activities for players to get more touches on the ball and ultimately feel better with the ball at their feet.

Each session is devoted almost entirely to skills training, including dribbling, fast footwork, 1 v 1 moves, passing, and receiving. The program also features shooting, finishing, and small-sided games.

Fall 2021 Recreation Skills Training Schedule 

  • U6-U8 Field Players: 4:30-5:45 pm
  • U9-U14 Field Players: 6:00-7:15 pm
  • U10-U14 Goalkeepers: 5:00-6:15 pm

All sessions will be held on Friday at Lewinsville Park #2.

Cost: $150 per player

Winter U6-U8 CLINIC

MYS offers a winter a clinic specifically for the U6-U8 players. This once a week clinic will be held over 6 weeks and is coached by the MYS Recreation Academy Staff. All clinics will feature a combination of skills, drills and game play. The clinic will be one hour long, and there are two sessions to choose from.

SFL Winter Training 2021

This highly SFL Winter Training Program is specifically for SFL players, ages U13-U19 and was created with the feedback from our own SFL coaches. It is a skill building opportunity in a fun and fast paced environment during the winter months.

U13 and up training focus:

  • High school tryout preparation
  • Goalkeeper training
  • Speed and agility training
