Amendments Announcement

The MYS Board of Directors recommends changes to the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws governing the club.  The amended Articles of Incorporation can be found here and the amended Bylaws can be found here.

The amended Bylaws contain changes intended to streamline and update governance processes, clarify ambiguities, and bring the club in line with competing soccer clubs in the area.  The primary modification provides that the Board of Directors, rather than the membership, vote on significant club matters, including the election of new Directors, future amendments to the Bylaws, and dissolution of the club. Given the historically low attendance of members at the Annual General Membership meeting (both in-person and virtual), significant matters effectively are decided by the Board of Directors.  Accordingly, this change formalizes the current practice.

The only change to the Articles of Incorporation provides that the Board of Directors shall be approved or elected as set forth in the Bylaws.

Pursuant to Commonwealth of Virginia law and the current Bylaws, amendments to the Articles of Incorporation and the Bylaws are subject to approval by a vote of the MYS membership.  This vote will take place at the Annual General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, 7:00 p.m., at the McLean Community Center.   Members must attend the meeting in person to cast a vote.

Board Of Directors Information

The MYS Board of Directors is currently comprised of 9 members. The make-up and structure of the board is based on the MYS By-Laws and includes representation from most of the major functions within the club including:

  • Recreation and Travel Memberships
  • Finance
  • Outreach and Community Service

Board members are elected at the Annual General Meeting unless appointed by the Board to fill an open position, according to the club by-laws. If you are interested in joining the Board to fill an open position or to be considered at the next Annual General Meeting, please contact the Board's Vice-Chair, who heads the Nominating Committee.
