Referee Assignment Procedures
MYS Referee Assignors
Tarey Houston assigns all McLean home referees for Recreation, SFL, CCL, NCSL and MYS Tournament games. Tarey has a Google Referee Availability Form you can complete for any MYS tournaments that you are available to work. Each March and mid-August, she will begin making pre-assignments for that season's MYS games.
Contact Tarey to request her www.gameofficials.net group code so you can be added to her online referee group. Once you join Tarey's group, you will begin receiving emails with a list of open MYS games, and this is the system where you will be assigned your MYS games. Tarey can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Jesse Rosenthal, USSF Assignor, assigns all McLean home referees for ECNL, EDP, and competitive youth play throughout Northern Virginia. His contact information is email@example.com and 703-338-6916. He does NOT use self-assignments. Please contact him to be added to his mailing lists for future assignments. Join GameOfficials Group 1483; passcode is "FUTURE".
MYS REBATE BONUS for Brand, New Referees:
Tarey will also manage MYS' new referee registration fee rebate program. If you attend a referee class, become certified, and work 20 or more MYS Recreation (REC) games (with a maximum of five being MYS tournament games) by the one year anniversary of you first becoming a certified referee, you will be eligible for a one-time payment reimbursement of $80.
Want to be Assigned MYS Games?
Tarey utilizes www.gameofficials.net as her online referee assigning tool. This is where you will find the list of available MYS games and how you will be assigned games. You will need to join Tarey's www.gameofficials.net group to have access to this information. If you are already certified, please contact Tarey (at firstname.lastname@example.org) to request the instructions on how join Tarey's online referee group. Closer to the start of each season, you can opt to be pre-assigned games for the entire season, or you can pick up games from the weekly available game lists that Tarey will post and send by email. If you need instructions on how to use the www.gameofficials.net system, Tarey can provide them.
Generally, below is the procedure that Tarey uses to make referee assignments:
1) At the beginning of the season, Tarey will request your availability via email through the www.gameofficials.net system. This is your opportunity to let Tarey know specifically when and where you are available to be assigned games. Note: You can opt to be pre-assigned games for the entire season (or just the specific dates you indicate on the form). You can also decide to pick up available games from her emailed list of open games week by week.
2) Based upon the collective emails that Tarey receives from you, she will make pre-assignments before the season begins.
3) If there are holes in the schedule AFTER she sends out those assignments, she will follow up with additional emails to get those holes filled. At this point, games are usually assigned in the order that Tarey receives requests by email [as long as the referee requesting the game(s) is qualified and has the level of experience]. To increase your chances of being assigned the games you want, when replying to Tarey's emails to request games, always send more than one game set choices in one email.

Concussion Recognition and Assessment Mobile Device App
McLean Youth Soccer requires that ALL coaches be certified with the CDC Heads Up Concussion Training and to renew every two years. Coaches must also also download the free mobile device app in case of any suspected head injury during a practice or game. MYS recommends that all team admins and parents download the app as well.
USSCI Registration Insurance
McLean Youth Soccer adheres to a no refund policy. However, each year we have players who are affected by injury, illness, relocation, etc. which may affect their ability to play for a certain length of time or the remainder of a season. When this occurs, it creates a domino effect for all the other families fees to compensate for the lost funds of the injured player as they are calculated on a per player basis. This also affects the Club’s operating budget.
At McLean Soccer, we have been looking for a solution that will help families and teams when they are faced with these unforeseen situations. During the current times that we are all facing, this concern is even greater. With the USSCI sports insurance, families, teams and the club will all have protection. Review your options here - https://mclean.sportsfees.us/
We encourage you to check out the details of and purchase this optional coverage to protect the financial commitment you are making for your athlete. Please note this insurance covers the following depending on which of the two plans you choose:
- Injuries - Injuries that leave the athlete unable to play for 30+ days
- Illness - Illness that renders the athlete unable to play for 30+ days
- Death - The Death of the Athlete or Parent
- Mental Illness – Player forced to withdraw from the program due to a Mental Illness
- Job Relocation - Moving out of the area for your employer greater than 75 miles
- Job Loss - A loss of employment in the household from a W2 employee
The coverage price for the insurance depends on your players specific program fees and which of the two plans you choose. Click HERE for additional information.
