ECNL Overview

Virginia Union FC teams participate in the ECNL league.

MISSION: McLean Youth Soccer's Travel Program develops all components of competitive youth soccer for boys and girls in an environment that promotes excellence, sportsmanship, self-confidence, and respect.

GOAL: McLean Youth Soccer's goal is to create the best developmental environment for aspiring players to fulfill their potential. MYS believes the ECNL provides the best format for player development in the country, and is excited to offer this opportunity to players at the top of its developmental structure. The Club was honored to be invited into the League in February, 2011. MYS was one of only 14 clubs (out of nearly 90 that applied) invited to join that year.

ECNL Director Clyde Watson sums up MYS's goals: "The ECNL provides our players and coaches a unique platform to train and showcase elite level players, manage their soccer participation, and allow our coaches to experience an unrivaled coaching environment."

STYLE OF PLAY: McLean Youth Soccer coaches and technical staff are dedicated to teaching players an elegant, possession game rooted in quick, confident combination play, yet integrating individual flair and creativity. MYS strives to impart this style at all levels of our Club, including Travel, NCSL and ECNL teams.

MYS COMMITMENT TO ECNL: McLean Youth Soccer believes the ECNL has become the leader in youth development in the U.S. today. It provides the top competition in the country. As well, the ECNL maintains close ties with U.S. Soccer at multiple levels, creating an ideal platform for the identification of top players.

Uniforms

Travel teams purchase new uniforms every two years, as manufacturer products have a life availability of typically 2 years. For the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons, required items for players are: black jersey, white jersey, black shorts, white shorts, green socks, orange socks, grey training jersey, black training shorts, and black training socks (white uniform shorts are optional and will be decided on at the team level). Check with your team/coach for any other items they may specify as required. Other items that are recommended but not required are warmups, goalie jerseys, sweatshirts, soccer bag, etc... Uniform number assignments are made by the team coach and volunteer uniform coordinator and each player will receive an email to order their items directly through soccer.com.
